Welcome to Thracia

“Not through fire, through endeavour, nor through the power of the Fae shall any device perpetuate the Human condition. No building, no transport, no weaponry shall be made in this image...”
Laws of Industry, Article 693

Unlike many other fantasy-like systems, Thracia has been through an Industrial Revolution. More than 2,000 years ago Humans began to experiment with Alchemy and the manipulation of Fae through foci. This eventually lead to the development of Human that could manipulate Fae through sheer will - the existence of Mages. Until then, Humans could only manipulate Fae through the power of faith - something very few other races could do as easily as a Human.

The development of Mages and the expansion in technology lead to the existence of conglomerate trading guilds and factories - and the creation of Machina, the machine. These guilds started the first true City States and eventually, the Guild War - a war with the power of Machina to back it up. Fae focused through massive machinery rained death upon the common populace, and whole areas of land were scoured.

Today the Guild War is something of near myth, and the Church of Six barely keeps a lid on the development of technology. Once again Humans are looking at exploring the possibility of Fae confinement. Once again, Humans are turning to the creation of the machine once again...

Remnants of the past are all over the world of Thracia, decaying relics of a long distant memory. But, as memories come back to haunt you, so too does the past echo in the values of the present...

The Dark and the Light, from a racial point of view, have spent more that four thousand years separate from one another. Try not to think Dark means 'evil' or Light means 'good', for the nature of Thracia is moral ambiguity. What is good? What is evil? As such, the Dark currently occupies Ithaca and all the North, whereas the Light occupies everything south of the Wall. For this reason Dark and Light cannot mix, though it might be possible for them to mix later as the story of the game develops: we never pre-write endings so it depends on how you interpret the game!
