As there are those who study life, there are those who study its end. Death Magick was formed by these students and it would not be wrong to assume that this study came about as an offshoot of Necromancy. Based on Life Magick, Death Magick relies upon making Life flow away from a target - to leach from those the caster wishes to affect. A study frowned upon by many, Death Magick is nevertheless a respected and powerful Art.
LESSER SPELLS
Corpse Flesh 10 minutes Self Physical effect The caster uses their control of death Magick to appear as the dead. For 10 minutes the caster takes on the appearance of being dead. Indeed, they will fool any physician (especially if staying still as if just recently dead), and will look totally devoid of life. A successful Detect Magick by another will reveal the presence of Magick, but not what the spell is, or what Magick caused it.
Deathsight 30 seconds Self Physical effect The caster opens their mind to the very presence of death about them. For 30 seconds, wherever the caster looks they can see whatever souls and spirits are about - zombies, animate skeletons etc. would not have a ‘seen’ spirit for example. This spell also tells the player whether the souls and spirits are ‘free’ or ‘undead’. This requires a ref.
Fear 30 seconds Ranged Mental effect The caster summons death to them, making them seem to another to be the very incarnation of death. The target of the spell must run, or if they cannot, cower and defend themselves only, for the next 30 seconds.
Mute 30 seconds Ranged Physical effect The caster rouses death Magick into another, leeching the power of speech. The target of this spell becomes mute for 30 seconds.
Sleep Until awakened Touch Mental effect The caster causes the life in another that they can touch to fade away. The caster must immediately touch someone with either hand - and calls ‘Sleep’ this effect is exactly the same as the weapon call.
Spirit Guardian 1 minute Self Mental effect The caster can call back the spirit of a loved one to protect themselves. All those of hostile intent that approach the caster must declare they are coming at the caster with said intent. The caster can also call other to inform them of their actions if they are within 30’ of the caster when the caster calls ‘Spirit Guardian’. This spell last for a 1 minute duration.
GREATER SPELLS
At Death’s Door Grace Period Self Physical effect The caster uses the powers of Death to suspend their life temporarily after death. The caster may now continue to walk, talk, fight and act normally throughout their grace period - however, the character cannot cast spells during this period. If they do not receive healing before this period is over they die and their spirit leaves their body. The character is now totally dead and cannot be healed. If the caster is struck to the head or chest location whilst At Death’s Door with a call of Crush, they must collapse as if killed normally. They may not talk if the head location has been struck with the Crush call. This does not cure the caster of poisons or disease and these things still have an effect if not removed. At Death's Door cannot be healed by Field Medic or Surgery.
Drain Life Instant Ranged Physical effect The caster uses their power over death to drain the life away from another into themselves. The target of the spell loses 1 body hit point from every location. The caster adds an additional ablative hit global - this may not be healed or restored in any way.
Remember the Past Instant Self Mental effect The caster feels with their Aetheric senses the life and lack of it in the vicinity. This spell picks up traces of emotional imprints on the Fae in the area. This spell requires a ref. The ref will inform the caster of how many have died in the vicinity recently, and if asked, will provide a details of deaths in the vicinity, starting with the latest and working backwards through time. Do not expect a detail-by-detail list - this spell should only be used as a guide.
Speak with the Dead 2 minutes Ranged/Self Physical/Mental effect This spell may only be cast once the target has actually died, and the body (or part thereof) is available (within an hour of dying). The caster uses the power of death to summon back the spirit of another to answer questions. The target must then answer single sentence questions with what it believes to be the truth. The caster has 2 minutes in which to ask the questions. The questions are answered in the form of ‘yes’ (1) and ‘no’ (2) knocks.
