A Message from the Referees

Recently, we've had to update the rules a bit. Such tidying up is common throughout all games everywhere, and it's worth it - the game gets slightly better and slightly more refined in the long run. Some rules need to be tested in 'open waters' so to speak - to see if they survive 'in the wild' rather than 'in vitro'.

With a recent rule one of the players promtly expressed their displeasure - "I can't do what I wanted with my character now!" they excalimed. We know that there's a lot of restrictions in Thracia LARP...

BUT we'd rather not be down about it though - let's turn it into something positive!

Thracia LARP has been developed for you to explore and really throw yourself into it if you want to. It's created so that if you put the effort in, you'll get what you want out of your character.

Quick question for you: What's more rewarding: 1) A skill given to you merely for turning up? 2) A skill bought with EXP you earned through (mostly) turning up? or 3) An ability gained by you doing something through role-play - something you have put effort, time and energy into?

There's a reason there's restrictions. There's a reason why some things are difficult to do.

Let's take an example:

Sithi. They can never buy the skill 'Resist Magicks'. Obviously this makes them vulnerable to magicks and can be a bit of a worry for some players. Yes, Sithi are skilled in magciks (-1 to tbe base costs of Magicks skills) but what use is that to a warrior Sithi - a Zha'Miru or Sh'Zhen that wants to focus their skills on martial prowess? So what can be done about it?

Acutally quite a lot.

Lets read the skill description again: "Sith can never buy the skill 'Resist Magicks'. This means they can't get it as a skill - so perhaps there are other ways?

Try exploring the game-world - there's Crafting that's gets you armour and weapons made of special materials. There's herbs and brewing to help you heal, sleep, rest, alter your psychology... There's Read Magicks to focus your power and the bind the Fae for you. There's a whole series of Hidden Skills added for you to explore - they're always worth trying for! And you can always improve the skills you have... History skills are a good way to do this! And lastly, there's always Rituals, which even mundane charcetrs can perform if you find out how...

You're not restricted as you might think in this system!

In fact, these restrictions are a good thing - now it's up to you to find your away around them!

Play the game - get the character you want!
