Aside from a snide ‘why not?’ we can, without hesitation, say ‘because Thracia LARP is different’. It’s something we’ve heard time and again from our players. ‘Thracia LARP is different’. We take it as a compliment.
Aren’t you tired of the same old games? Aren’t you tired of the same kinds of things, over and over again? Yes, we are too.
How many times have started to play a new, upcoming system and then realise that the game is basically the same as every other system out there? Yes - we are too.
They chop and change things around - call things by new names (it’s not magic it’s ‘Shamicology’...). But basically it’s the same system. But we always get that said to us - we’re different.
We’re not the same, tired out, way of playing. We’re not the same, tired out way of running a game. And we’re not the same, tired out way of managing plot.
Our game mechanics might be the same as what’s out there. Our outlook might be the same. Our magic might even look the same from the outside. But the game is very different.
We’ve tried to describe Thracia to people in the past using words like ‘dark, gothic, horror, psychological, whodunit, murder-mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, mechanic, cyber-punk, steam-punk epic’ but we struggle to remember all of it, and frankly, it’s a mouthful. But the idea is that there’s a little bit of everything for everyone - and it all works!
We don’t ask you to make your own plot. We ask that to join in alongside our plot. We’ve got more than 1,000,000 years of history in the Thracia LARP game system. We have more than 7 languages for you to learn if you wish to - and 4 magickal scripts and well over 170 ingredients for herbalists. You’ve got an idea, we’re sure we can find something for you to work with.
Our promise: Give us 1,000 people - we’ll give you 1,000 people with plot.
Unlike other systems, where you have 1,000 people and 5 of them have plot with which to interact with, you give 1,000 people to us (2,000, a million even!) EVERY single one of them will have plot to interact with.
Our game world is also designed so that it has a massive scope, and massive potential. You learn what you need to know, and you can create extremely varied characters by doing so. Character progression is something our players have spent hours and hours thinking about... and they praise us for how much they can do and explore within the rules system - there’s more than 80 Advanced skills!
Our plots might be dark, and gritty, and that might not appeal to you. In our system there’s no morality chosen through the colour of your skin (“you’re a Drow with black skin, you must be EVIL...”). In Thracia LARP there is no Deamon to tempt you to do evil. There’s no corrupting magic to blame it all on. They certainly won’t make you do it... you’ll do it because that’s the way the world is. It’s a big, scary world.
