CREATING YOUR OWN THRACIA GROUP
It's perfectly fine to create your own group in Thracia LARP. Thracia LARP is about bringing people together and sharing ideas. Eventually, each Guild will have a Guild Tent within their Alliance. As such, it is not entirely unreasonable to see that groups of like-minded individuals from a Guild - or even a few Guilds - to come together to have companionship and share ideas both IC and OOC.
What is a Group?
Groups are better named 'Chapters' or 'Squads' IC and represent a loose 'family' of like-minded characters. This could be something like:
"The 5th Rifles; The Desert Dogs": The 3rd unit of the 5th platoon of the College of Battle and Arms. They use clockwork long-rifles and back their fire-power with the mage powers of Heavens and Fire. Mixed in a few Battlefield Surgeons to heal them, a Priest of the Soldier to guide them in battle and prayer and a few Alchemists to enhance their weaponry. Their specialisation lies in desert warfare - a task which has earned them a fearsome reputation.
"The Disciples of Fire": The red-robed nutters that like to burn things and people, they follow the Prophet of Fire. Most are warriors, a few are scouts but they have a number of Priest amongst them too, which lead them in their praise to the God of Fire.
"Clockwork Knights": A group of Gaia Society Alchemists that specialise in clockwork, the Knights are highly skilled Crafters that work metals into some of the best-forged weaponry in all the Three.
How do I create a Group?
Groups are sets of people coming together for a common goal or purpose. You'll need a few things to create a Group first:
GROUPS AND GUILDS
Forming a Group is always a good thing for you to do – it gives you access to plot and allows you access to the game system by requesting Sanction for Linears. However, Player Characters for the Light and dark behave very different for the game system and different rules thus apply:
Light Alliance Groups and Guilds
Groups
Characters can only join one Group. It grants:
+ Sharing knowledge – many groups have other Player Characters you can learn off straight away IC.
+ Reduced Timed Skills – Player Characters can share workloads and thus reduce time on Timed Skills if they perform tasks together.
+ Plot access – Groups can have plot written specifically for them.
+ A Hidden Skill – groups gain a Hidden Skill based on the Group concept
+ Reduced research times and use of Downtime for research (send it to C&C).
+ Noble Rank 1 – for the lead character
Guilds
Characters can join multiple Guilds. They grant:
+ A bonus reduction of learning certain skills IC and the amount of EXP needed to buy certain skills. See the Guilds of the Light section for details.
Dark Alliance Groups and Guilds
Groups
Characters can join multiple Groups. They grant:
+ Sharing knowledge – many groups have other Player Characters you can learn off straight away IC.
+ Reduced Timed Skills – Player Characters can share workloads and thus reduce time on Timed Skills if they perform tasks together.
+ Plot access – Groups can have plot written specifically for them.
+ A bonus reduction on times of learning certain skills IC and to spending EXP on certain skills
+ Noble Rank 1 – for the lead character
Guilds
Characters can only join one Guild – though they will need to meet the approval of the Guild. It will grant:
+ A Hidden Skill specific to that Guild.
+ Reduced research times and use of Downtime for research (send it to C&C).
Do I need approval?
Your Group will need approval, as information about it will need to be submitted to the referees. Plot for the Group can be no more than 500 words (including diagrams) and will be updated by the referees to fit in-line with the system. Hope you find some inspiration from this!
SANCTIONING
If you can start a Group up in your county, you may like to begin to run Thracia Linears and events. Although you will need to send in your plot brief and Linear write-up to Command and Control (mail to: info@thracialarp.co.uk, or via Facebook or the forums) you may run Thracia games and have your plot input in the larger schema of the game system. Sanctioning is the method by which the game team can grant you the ability to run Linears.
This means the Linear, the plot, the method and style is all up to your Group. Different Groups will have different impacts on the plot, as will different story-lines based on the Group ethos.
Now that Thracia is getting to the point of more expansion, Linears written by GMs in future will have a Sanction value. Sanction value is given by the amount it deviates from the main plot, used by Thracia LARP. Whilst this means that some Linears and plots will have no bearing on the game, it does mean that at least you get to play a game - and even Sanction4 might end up being used at some point:
This does mean that the Sanction can change between Linears and between developments within a given plot. It also means that all plot at Events will be considered Sanction 0.
We're waiting for you to join in!
